A silicon irradiance sensor is a cost-effective, however rugged and reliable solution to measure solar irradiance and especially useful for monitoring of Photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The construction of the sensor (very similar to a PV module) makes it an ideal reference for PV monitoring systems. The spectral response as well as a very similar inclination error allow for precise analysis of PV energy yields.
